What is an Instagram Reel transcript?

An Instagram Reel transcript is a text version of the spoken audio in a Reel. It captures every word said in the video, with optional timestamps showing exactly when each phrase was spoken. Transcripts make Reel content searchable, shareable, and reusable in ways that video alone cannot be.

Creators use transcripts to repurpose scripts, managers use them to archive campaigns, and researchers use them to analyze language in social media. The process is straightforward: extract the audio from the video file and run it through a speech-to-text engine.

How to add a Reel for transcription

You can paste a Reel link directly into Vook, or download the file first. Instagram does not provide a direct download button for Reels in all regions, but several approaches work reliably:

• Save your own Reels. In the Instagram app, open your Reel, tap the three-dot menu, and select "Save to device". This downloads an MP4 file.
• Screen recording. Record the screen while the Reel plays. The resulting video file (MP4 or MOV) can be uploaded to Vook directly.
• Third-party downloaders. Various browser extensions and web tools let you download public Reels as MP4. Always check the terms of service for the content you are downloading.
• Audio extraction. If you only need the audio track, tools like FFmpeg can extract it as MP3 or M4A before uploading.
